On July 19, 1897 nearly a whole block in the town of Hawley was distroyed by fire. This spurred local business leaders to gather to discuss the possiblity of fire protection. Thus the Hawley Fire Company was born.
In the early 1920's the Hawley Fire Company decided to establish a Hawley Fire Company #2. On October 13, 1924, Hawley Fire Company #2 was orginized with a charter being granted on March 16, 1925. These two companies provided fire service for the next 52 years.
In 1977, it was decided to have the two companies become one operating unit with the creation of The Hawey Fire Department, Inc. The department was housed in the garage area of the Hawley Borough building on Main Avenue in Hawley.
February 14, 1999 with the completion of a new firehouse, The Hawley Fire Department moved into its current location at 17 Columbus Avenue, Hawley, Pennsylvania.
On March 2, 2016 the Hawley Fire Department formed a "Junior Firefighter Program". Youths 14-17 years of age may now join the fire department to start their training to become a firefighter.
Stop in and see us at the firehouse if you would like to find out how you can be part of this very important service we provide to OUR community.
